We map the gates
We hold the position of each gate, so we know how far apart they are. Gate positions come from OpenStreetMap contributors.
We measure the walk
We turn that distance into minutes using a rate calibrated against the walk times airports publish themselves.
You budget the time

FAQ
How accurate are the walk times?
Where the airport publishes its own walk times, we show those unchanged. That covers JFK, Newark and LaGuardia today. Everywhere else we estimate from gate positions, using a walking rate calibrated against those published times. Expect an estimate to be within a minute or two, and we always label an estimate as an estimate.
Why is it shown as a range?
Because a walk is a range. How fast you move depends on crowds, luggage, and whether you stop. Airports publish their own walk times as ranges for the same reason, so we do too.
Does this work between terminals?
Only where walking is actually the way to get there. If two gates are in different terminals, the real journey is often a train, a bus, or leaving and clearing security again. In that case we tell you which it is rather than quoting a walking time that would mislead you.
Which airports are covered?
Coverage is strongest at large and mid-size airports, where gate positions are well mapped. Some smaller airports have no gate data at all. Where we do not know which terminal a gate belongs to, we show the distance but do not claim a walk time.
Is this the same as indoor navigation?
No. We do not give you turn-by-turn directions inside the terminal. We tell you how long the walk takes, which is the part that changes whether you make your connection.
